Heartbleed Detector: Check If Your Android OS Is Vulnerable with Our App

lookout-heartbeat-detector
Monday, the world learned about a critical bug in OpenSSL called “Heartbleed.” It severely compromises the integrity of secure communications and there isn’t a whole lot consumers of the Internet can do to protect themselves.
But, of course, knowledge is power, so we’ve created the Heartbleed Detector, an app that will tell you if you’re running a vulnerable version of Android on your phone. While everyone has been talking about how Heartbleed affects servers and Internet infrastructure, it also affects mobile devices. Our detector app will help you figure out if your device is one of them.

What is Heartbleed?
Heartbleed is a software flaw in the OpenSSL “Heartbeats” function that helps keep secure connections alive. This function was found to be vulnerable to manipulation in a way that allows an attacker to steal up to 64K of data at a time from the active memory of affected systems. The bug, found by researchers from Codenomicon and Google, and filed with the following reference number – CVE-2014-0160, impacts any infrastructure that includes the affected versions of OpenSSL.
How does the detector work?
This app determines what version of OpenSSL your device is using and then checks to see if the specific vulnerable feature called Heartbeats is enabled.
This app is not meant to fix this vulnerability, as this will need to be patched by Google or your device manufacturer, and it is only meant to keep you informed about the status of your device. The good news is that Lookout has not yet seen the Heartbleed vulnerability exploited on a mobile device, but you can stay updated with the latest information on our blog at blog.lookout.com.
The detector also doesn’t detect if websites or other online services you use are vulnerable — more about that below.
What should I do if I’m vulnerable?
If your device is vulnerable, you can check in your Android settings to see if you have any System Updates. If you do, update your operating system to make sure you’re running the newest version of Android available for your device.
Unfortunately, if there are no updates available, there isn’t anything you can do. It’s up to the infrastructure teams behind the products and services you use to update their systems. The good news is that we have yet to see any attacks targeting a mobile device, and while this is a credible risk, the likelihood of you encountering an exploit is low.
Will it protect me from affected websites?
No. This app will not detect if any of the services or accounts (the apps and websites you visit) on your device are vulnerable and is only meant to detect vulnerabilities in Android.
In other words, your operating system might be fine, but the websites you’re accessing might not. We suggest contacting your service providers to ask what steps they have taken to protect their systems from Heartbleed.
Should I change my passwords?
Not yet! Wait to hear from the services with which you have an account. Because the vulnerability pulls data from the active memory the affected systems, your password might not have lived in this data. If you change it now, you give anyone who exploits a still-vulnerable site access to your new password.
This vulnerability is one of the most widespread we’ve seen yet, affecting two-thirds of the Internet. We encourage companies to alert their consumers when their infrastructure has been shored up, letting account-holders know it’s safe to change their password.

How to add a WhatsApp widget to your lock screen

WhatsApp has rightfully replaced traditional text messaging for most smartphone owners these days, and having quick access to your messages is just as essential. With a couple of easy steps you can add a WhatsApp widget to your Android's lock screen so that you don't even need to unlock your phone to see what's up in WhatsApp.

One simple thing to do on any device is go into WhatsApp's Settings > Notifications and enable popup notifications. You can have popups for an illuminated screen (when you're using your phone) but also for a switched off screen. If you go for this option a new message notification will popup once even if the screen is off but remain on your lock screen the next time you go to unlock your phone.

Stock Android

If your device is running stock Android, or a custom ROM that supports lockscreen widgets, you can quickly and easily add custom widgets, including WhatsApp, to your lock screen. Just go into Settings > Lock screen and tick the box for Custom Widgets. Then, lock your device's screen and from the lock screen swipe to the side until you see the + symbol. Tap that and select WhatsApp (or any other app for that mattecr) from the list. If you unlock your device from the lock screen with the WhatsApp widget installed, the next time you unlock your lock screen the WhatsApp widget will appear as the ''default''. You can also unlock from a different lock screen to have another widget be the one you see when you unlock. Older versions of Android do not support lock screen widgets.

Galaxy devices

Like all OEM skins, Samsung uses a slightly different menu setup but customizing your lock screen widgets is just as easy. Galaxy devices running newer versions of Android give you the ability to set up lock screen widgets just like stock Android, but you can also add a WhatsApp shortcut to your lock screen if you prefer that. Just go to Settings > Lock screen > Lock screen options and turn on Shortcuts switch, then tap where it says Shortcuts and choose WhatsApp from the list.

Having problems?

If you're having issues getting the WhatsApp widget using the method described above, you may have a version of Android that doesn't support lock screen widgets – anything below Android 4.2. If you want a different lock screen widget specifically, you can just install an app like NiLS or WidgetLocker which are nice lock screen widget managers. You'll probably have to remove the default clock widget first though. Keep in mind that on Samsung devices running KitKat you can't just remove the clock widget as it seems as though Samsung is trying to take over that area with its own custom lock screen cards for weather, social, email etc.

If you're using a widget manager like NiLS, you'll need to know that Samsung tends to push notifications through it's default widget so you'll have to use a different SMS app to bypass that whole mess. Some apps, like Sliding Messaging, work well with NiLS and allow you additional lock screen widget buttons like Reply and Read. Many of you will also know that I’m a big fan of Dynamic Notifications, the notifications app scraped from the Moto X. If you have an AMOLED displayed Samsung device, this is a great battery saving and notification tool that you can also use to quickly access new WhatsApp messages before you get to your lock screen. It can also be used as a lock screen replacement in the premium version.

Using Internet For Free !

Yes ! Everyone wants to use Internet for free. It is a necessity today. No one can ignore the world of information, entertainment. It is up to you what kind of use you put it in. Well, it is not free. ISP charges money for providing you the access the internet. Lets Begin !
So,  What is the first thing you need to have access to the internet, yes it is the ISP.  Obviously, there is not only one ISP on the planet working to provide access to the internet. There are a large number of them. Presently, you can call them a Network connected to internet.  There are Virtual Private Networks called VPNs.  Some are prepaid, free and fully paid.  Get a Free VPN you will need that.

After a free VPN, you need a internet connection to reach to that free VPN. VPNs are not ISP, they depend upon your implemented technology.
Again, as I have mentioned the implemented technology. It means that if your speed is slow, it is not good. The better the speed, the better the speed you get. So, I can say that it is for a special class of internet users which is increasing day by day.  Get the answer by yourself.
You would need a software for connecting to that VPN, Well the software depends upon the VPN. Generally, it could be an OpenVPN Software.
After all the theory that I have mentioned have a flaw. All the ISPs can not be used to get the free internet. The OpenVPN software routes all of your iinternet traffic to another Internet Server (VPN Server). If the your ISP  does not come to know about this routing, then you will be using free internet, otherwise you have a bad day.
The transfer protocol also matters, may be TCP packets may be traced by ISp and UDP may not. Again, it is the ISP only and of course, you luck.
Well, I told you everything and nothing. :)
Intelligent will find a way.

Google Camera from Google

Google just dropped the official Camera app into the Play Store, thus paving the way for quicker updates and new features without having to wait for and install OTAs.

The new camera version 2.1.037 has a brand new interface and includes a new lens blur feature for more DSLR-like shots, which you can read about here. Another important update includes the previously rumored 100% viewfinder fix, which means the final photo will look exactly the same as it does on the viewfinder screen. Panoramic photospheres can now be captured in a whopping 50MP resolution if you change the settings to Maximum quality. Oh, and check out that new icon.
